Mechano Growth Factor (MGF) is a splice variant of IGF-1 (specifically IGF-1Ec) that is upregulated in response to mechanical stress and muscle damage. It is believed to play a role in muscle stem cell activation and tissue repair. The synthetic peptide sold as 'MGF' or 'PEG-MGF' is a research chemical with no human clinical data.

Mechanism of Action

The MGF splice variant activates muscle satellite cells (stem cells) and promotes their proliferation and differentiation into new muscle fibers. It also has local anti-inflammatory effects in damaged muscle. PEG-MGF is a pegylated version designed to extend half-life. The mechanism is based on cell culture and animal studies only.
